COVID-19 has drastically altered the lives of people around the world, and it seems that some changes are going to affect us for much longer then we may have initially hoped. One set of people that are looking for a way to adjust to the post-COVID-19 world are engaged couples. Many couples are looking to rearrange their wedding date, yet we are all unsure of when exactly all of the restrictions will be lifted. Others are determined to plow ahead and are finding ways to make it work. And the wedding industry is eager to get back on track despite social distancing measures.
Here are some of our tips for wedding planning in light of COVID-19.
Our first piece of advice is to choose the perfect wedding rings. No matter what happens, your rings will last a lifetime and will be a continued reminder of your love and devotion to each other. If you decide to postpone your wedding because of the COVID-19 pandemic, your wedding rings will continue to symbolize your commitment to each other.
If you do decide to go ahead with wedding planning despite the restrictions, then here are some things you need to consider.
If you are going ahead with your wedding planning, then you may need to shrink your guest list. It is difficult to say what restrictions will be in place on large gatherings, and people may need to stay back from each other and avoid contact.
Outdoor weddings will be best as the fresh air can help to keep your guests safe during the global pandemic.
Intimate weddings are some of the most beautiful weddings. It may be heartbreaking to limit your guests, and you may need to uninvite people, which can be stressful. Furthermore, swapping and changing your plan can feel overwhelming. Just remember, your wedding can be just as beautiful and special, if not more so.
Be mindful and respectful. Some people may choose not to attend your wedding because they do not feel comfortable with the idea, or they may have health problems themselves or have people close to them with health problems. Be respectful, give people options, and get their answers in advance so that someone else can take their place.
The World Health Organization makes recommendations for mass gatherings which are a good set of guidelines to follow.
When considering vendors, make sure you have a reschedule/cancellation policy that is fully understood. Some vendors have made changes to their policies in light of COVID-19. Try and have a plan in place so that if you have to cancel or reschedule, you do not lose too much money.
One consideration is that some policies may allow you to rebook them at the same time next year. However, this may change the day of the week your wedding is on, which may be an important consideration. Weekends can be more expensive, while mid-week may make it more difficult for everyone to attend.
If you have a wedding planner, then consider meeting them online via Facebook, Google Hangout, or Zoom. Limiting your interactions with people and in keeping with social distancing as much as you can is encouraged. They will also be able to advise you on measures you can put in place.
If you can move your wedding by a few months and decide to opt for your big day to be delayed, then you may need to consider the changing seasons. You may have picked flower arrangements and bridesmaid dresses to meet a theme that may no longer work.
Whatever adjustments you can make, the fact that you have a winter cake at a spring wedding, for example, shouldn't matter too much. Your guests will understand the circumstances of your wedding planning, and it will make getting married that much more unique and special and might leave you with some interesting stories to tell later in life.
Wedding planning for couples during the coronavirus pandemic may seem stressful. However, the things that make your event different will also make it special. Do your best to be flexible and make adjustments, and you might end up with a more magical occasion then you ever imagined. Remember what's important, you have found someone you love, and they love you back, and that is something to be celebrated!
